Project Details
Carolina Community Academy is an innovative school for K-2 students at North Elementary School in Roxboro, NC. It is a partnership between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Person County Schools, aimed at drawing upon a variety of academic and professional strengths across the Carolina campus to best serve the students, families, and community in this county.
For the opening of this school, I was tasked with designing a logo and mascots that would reflect its partnership with UNC, while also being welcoming and appealing to children. For the logo, I created a custom, stylized version of UNC's most iconic symbol, The Old Well, and combined it with laurel icons to further tie into the UNC School of Education brand. I combined the mark with a classic typeface to add a level of trust and professionalism to the logo. The mascots are custom illustrations that I created to nod to each school's respective mascot, but be more appealing to K-2 aged students. Colors of the mascots were drawn from each school's brand and use the same rounded outline style as the logo in order to create cohesion among the designs.
This project was a Silver Award recipient in the 19th Annual Davey Awards
