Project Details
The UNC Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) is an organization at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health that provides various scientific services for investigators and faculty members who are conducting nutrition and obesity research. Since its inception, NORC relied heavily on the brand style of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, including the school’s logo. This prevented them from being seen as their own entity with a unique offering of services. To help with this challenge, they sought to create a distinct, yet University-tied brand that would make the center a more visible presence on campus and reach people who can use their services.
I developed a custom logo and brand that’s distinct and modern. Instead of using cliché nutrition imagery, the brand takes a bolder direction by using abstract shapes and patterns. The logo uses basic shapes to nod to the basic science aspect of NORC. These shapes are carried through the brand and used both as decorative elements and to form abstract icons that represent NORC’s research cores. A limited color palette grounds the brand, while also tying into main University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill brand. After the brand was developed, I designed their website using using these elements.
This project was a Silver Award recipient in the 18th Annual Davey Awards
